Welcome to WinPond Workshop Demo #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO12 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO13 Demonstration Problem #1  Mr. Chan L. Cat wants a pond built on his property in Lamar County, TX for livestock water. Location is 0.7 miles SW of Chicota, TX. This will be a low hazard pond.  The Elevation-Surface Area data in acres: 89.9 – 0.0 96.0 – 1.21 97.0 – 1.60 98.0 – 1.90 99.0 – 3.80 100.0 – 3.90 100.0 – 3.90 101.0 – 4.0 101.0 – 4.0 102.0 – 4.1 102.0 – 4.1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO14 Demonstration Problem #1  Now execute WinPond  Click > File > New  This will automatically pull up the default template that you created previously.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO116 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO117 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO118 Demonstration Problem #1  Sediment storage required will be: Above Inlet (aerated sediment)= 0.03 AF Below Inlet (submerged sediment) = 0.03 AF  The Principal Spillway Crest will be set at Elevation 96.0.  The landowner wants a pipe drop for his pond. Top width is 12.0 ft. Front and back slopes will be 4:1 No berms are needed Pool Bottom elevation is 89.9 Channel and Outlet elevation is 86.0 Tailwater elevation is 87.5 Outlet extension is 6.0 ft. C/L low point elevation is 87.1 Auxiliary Spillway Exit Slope is 7.4% Conduit Invert is 89.0

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO119 Demonstration Problem #1 Estimated sediment : 0.06 AF 1/2-Above the inlet (aerated)=0.03AF 1/2-Below the inlet (submerged)=0.03AF.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO120 Demonstration Problem #1 Reduces the amount of storage available when the floodrouting is done. Used to determine the minimum height for the inlet elevation.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO121 Demonstration Problem #1 LAMAR COUNTY

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO122 Demonstration Problem #1 Do you have adequate water yield for your purpose? For Lamar county the exhibit shows approx. 5 acres of drainage for each AF of storage. For this location we have 47.9 acres and should be able to supply 47.9/5.0=9.6 AF of storage. This location we need our water yield to supply approx. a max of 5.5 AF. So the pond has adequate water yield. Computer models such as RESOP or SPAW can be used for this determination if needed.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO123 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO124 Demonstration Problem #1 LAMAR COUNTY

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO125 Demonstration Problem #1 We want to be sure we have adequate depth for long time water storage. Based on this location we should have a minimum water depth of 8 ft. over 25% of the area. We are providing 6.1 ft. (96.0-89.9) of natural depth and will pick up additional depth from the borrow area in front of the pond. For this pond the constructed front bottom depth was El. 86.0 for a depth of 10.0 ft. (96.0-86.0).

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO126 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO127 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO128 Demonstration Problem #1 We will use three pipe trials, all HCMP-Helical Corrugated Metal Pipe 12”, 18”, & 24” barrel Use 18”, 30”, & 40” for riser size. The inlet extension horizontal distance is 5.0 ft Use an entrance coefficient of 1.0 A Manning's “n” value of.011,.013, &.015 will be used Pipe length is computed based on constructed fill and slopes.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO129 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO130 Demonstration Problem #1 This is for new pipe. You should add 10-20% to design for aged pipe condition.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO131 Demonstration Problem #1 List of pipe sizes or direct entree. Accept default “n” or direct entree.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO132 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO133 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO134 Demonstration Problem #1 We will use the calculated method. The auxiliary spillway width is 20 ft. with a C retardance. The level section is 25 Ft. with 4:1 side slope. The exit channel will be a C retardance. The permissible velocity is 5.0 FPS Length 1 is 65 ft-5%; Length 2 is 105 ft.-5%

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO135 Demonstration Problem #1 Discharge will be calculated as in DAMS2 Qe values will be read from the file ASFILE (same format as in DAMS2) A file containing stage- discharge data will be read. An auxiliary spillway will not be routed.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO136 Demonstration Problem #1 Discharge will be calculated as in DAMS2

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO137 Demonstration Problem #1

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO138 Demonstration Problem #1 The top of fill elevation can be changed, but only to a larger value.

03/08/07 CNTSC-WinPond Workshop DEMO139 Demonstration Problem #1 “Use New Pipe Length” This will return you to T-7, Principal Routing screen to run through the calculations with the new pipe length.
