2 The Challenge Create an Access “Project” to be used as a front-end (user interface) to a SQL-Server Database

3 Step 1 – Source Data Log in to SQL Server –Determine the server name and, if appropriate, the server instance YORKTOWN or YORKTOWN\DSCIDB or YORKTOWN.CBE.WWU.EDU\DSCIDB or WHAT? –Determine the name of the database F10-Worker-Obama –Determine what privileges you have on that specific database

4 Step 2a – Create the Project Open Microsoft Access 2010 1.Click the Blank Database icon 2.Create a file name for the project 3.Click the folder icon (not Create) 1 2 3

5 Step 2b – Create the Project 1.For “type,” choose Microsoft Access Projects 2.Navigate to the folder where you want to save the Access Project, for example the Desktop 3.Then click OK Click Create on the start page 1 2 3

6 Step 3 – Connect to the Database Once the project is created, you will be asked Choose Yes Complete the Data Link Properties Window –These entries are specific to MIS 421 students and faculty 1 2 3

7 Step 4 – Explore the Connection You should be able to double-click a table name and see the data in it (if you have permissions to the table)

8 Step 5 – Quality Assurance Can you open all tables to which you have permissions?
