3
Danish Meteorological Institute, Ice Charting and Remote Sensing Division Data Interface Satellite Data SIKU Model fields Simple binary format, e.g. GeoTiff or BSQ and (FGDC) metadata. Simple ASCII format and (FGDC) metadata Simple formats can be read by ArcGIS. Production and formatting of data can be made by in- house software ArcGIS will build pyramid layers (satellite images) for fast display.
4
Danish Meteorological Institute, Ice Charting and Remote Sensing Division Design Considerations Windows as front end OS ArcGIS to be used for the whole analysis process ArcGIS is considered sufficient for display of satellite images Extensive use of build-in capabilities, e.g. editing System dimensioned for small – medium ice service Two screen workstations At least two identical and independent seats Clear and simple interface towards DMI production environment
5
Danish Meteorological Institute, Ice Charting and Remote Sensing Division Use of Catalogue build-in capabilities Search for data Preview of charts and images Metadata handling
6
Danish Meteorological Institute, Ice Charting and Remote Sensing Division A new data model Use GeoDatabase concept One feature dataset with three feature classes : border, class and symbol Template defined for each area Including –Topology rules –Subtypes –Domains E.g. polygons must not overlap Predefined line and symbol types Predefined attribute values
7
Danish Meteorological Institute, Ice Charting and Remote Sensing Division How far have we got ? Software and hardware are purchased Data model is defined Ice chart metadata content is about to be defined We have to use ArcGIS and ArcView 3.x in combination until we have resources to convert Avenue scripts to VBA Test production will begin in Q3 2004 PC’s with two 21inch screens; 2.8 Ghz processor and 2 Gbyte RAM Full ArcGIS software
