This presentation demonstrates the use of instructional materials that may be used with a diverse population of students who require similar cues and prompts.

SS7G1 The student will locate selected features of Africa.. b. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map the countries of: Democratic Republic of the Congo (Zaire), Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, and South Sudan. This standard is addressed in the following activities.

Africa Political Regional Map with Names of countries in Colors identical to Colors of countries in Map are used to TEACH the location of the countries on the Political Regional Map of Africa.

ZIMBABWE CHAD

EGYPT ANGOLA

SOUTH AFRICA ZIMBABWE

When the student has learned the location of the countries of Africa with the use of the maps with names in colors that match the color of the country on the map, then the student uses maps without the names of countries in Colors.

SOUTH AFRICA ZIMBABWE

NIGERIA SIERRA LEONE

EGYPT ANGOLA

World Physical Map with Names of countries in Colors identical to Colors of countries in Map are used to TEACH the location of the countries on the World Physical Map.

KENYA SUDAN

SOUTH AFRICA NIGERIA

When the student has learned the location of the countries of Africa with the use of the maps with names in colors that match the color of the country on the map, then the student uses maps without the names of countries in Colors.

EGYPT KENYA

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (ZAIRE) SUDAN

Regional Physical Map with Names of countries in Colors identical to Colors of countries in Map are used to TEACH the location of the countries on the Regional Physical Map.

KENYA NIGERIA

EGYPT DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (ZAIRE)

When the student has learned the location of the countries of Africa with the use of the maps with names in colors that match the color of the country on the map, then the student uses maps without the names of countries in Colors.

EGYPT DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (ZAIRE)

KENYA NIGERIA

World Political Map with Names of countries in Colors identical to Colors of countries in Map are used to TEACH the location of the countries on the World Political Map.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (ZAIRE) EGYPT

NIGERIA SUDAN

When the student has learned the location of the countries of Africa with the use of the maps with names in colors that match the color of the country on the map, then the student uses maps without the names of countries in Colors.

EGYPT SOUTH AFRICA

SUDAN NIGERIA

Some students are able to learn the names and locations of other countries of Africa. These students may use the same maps with the use of other colors with the same method as used With the original countries.

NIGER EGYPT SUDAN ANGOLA

MADAGASCAR TANZANIA SIERRA LEONE

Among the other uses of these maps are the printing of the powerpoint presentations so that the student may match the written name Of the countries with the locations of these countries.

Since the same colors are used for the countries in each map, students may learn to use crayons or colored pencils of the same colors and locate and color the location of the countries on the identical maps that were used for teaching.

Another way to use the maps of Africa is to incorporate these maps with coordinate grids. Three possible uses of these grids are: 1. Students may plot the coordinates onto the map of Africa. 2. Students may then identify the name of the country where the plotted point is located. 3. Students may be asked to state the coordinates of plotted points.

MCC.7.RP.2 Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities. a. Decide whether two quantities are in a proportional relationship, e.g., by testing for equivalent ratios in a table or graphing on a coordinate plane and observing whether the graph is a straight line through the options. These next activities are prerequisite skills for MCC 7. RP.2. These activities review plotting points on coordinate planes which is a needed skill for the completion of this standard.
