Where does the Volume formula come from? Three pyramids with equal volume can be put together to form a prism. Each pyramid will have one-third of the volume of the prism. Volume of pyramidVolume of prism V = 1/3 B hV = B h (see picture on page 510)

Volume of Cones Cones use the same volume formula that pyramids use. Since the base of a cone is a circle, you can substitute πr 2 for the area of the base. V = 1/3 B h = 1/3 πr 2 h (see picture on page 511)
