Consciousness as a Construct Today, Psychologists believe that consciousness should be studied because it can be linked to talking and brain waves -Construct= used to talk about something that cannot be seen, touched or measured Ex. Intelligence and emotion

SENSORY AWARENESS = KNOWLEDGE OF SURROUNDINGS THROUGH PERCEPTION Happens often when unusual circumstances or intense stimuli

SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS = AWARENESS OF OUR SELF AND OUR EXISTANCE Kids speak in 3 rd person when young… eventually grow out of it and understand idea of self

LEVELS OF CONSCIOUSNESS: - CONSCIOUS = AWARE/ALERT - PRECONSCIOUS = IDEAS THAT ARE NOT IN IMMEDIATE AWARENESS, BUT YOU CAN RECALL EASILY
