MTH 3-19a MTH 4-19a www.mathsrevision.com Learning Intention Success Criteria 1.Understand the terms rotational symmetry. 1.We are learning what rotational symmetry and its order. Rotation (Turn) Symmetry 2. State the turn symmetry and order for shapes.
16
Rotation (Turn) Symmetry Draw the other side of the shape rotated through 180 o around the red point. This new shape has half-turn symmetry ORDER 2. Order 2 means it looks the same twice as it is rotated through 360 o.
17
Rotation (Turn) Symmetry State the turn symmetry for each and its order. Square ( ¼ turn symmetry) Order 4 Rectangle ( ½ turn symmetry) Order 2

MTH 3-19a MTH 4-19a Creating Half-Turn Symmetry www.mathsrevision.com Learning Intention Success Criteria 1.Understand the terms half- turn symmetry. 1.We are learning how we can create half-turn symmetry for a shape. 2.Draw the other half of a shape such that it has half-turn symmetry.
21
Creating Half -Turn Symmetry Draw the other side of the shape rotated through 180 o around the red point. The final shape depends on the centre of rotation.

MTH 3-19a MTH 4-19a Translation (slide) Symmetry www.mathsrevision.com Learning Intention Success Criteria 1.Understand the terms translational, slide congruent and tile. 1.We are learning the meaning of Translational (slide) symmetry using tile patterns. 2.Identify shapes that tile. 3.Construct a tile pattern for shapes.
26
Translation (Slide) Symmetry A shape that tiles can be completely surrounded by congruent shapes WITHOUT leaving any gaps. Using Slide Symmetry Shape tiles DOES NOT tiles Gaps between shapes Gaps Gaps
27
How can you tell if the tiling is complete ?
29
Is this the complete tiling ? No ! Why ? Complete the tiling
