Nouns and Definite Articles What are nouns? Nouns (Sustantivos) name people, animals, places, things or ideas. Nouns in Spanish *All Spanish nouns have a masculine or feminine gender. What are definite articles? Definite articles are the in English. s.p. m. f. el la los las p.29 They indicate specific persons, places, or things.

Masculine Nouns: If the noun ends in – o, usually it is masculine. *Also if the noun is of Greek origin, ending in “-ama” / “-ata” / “-apa” or if the word ends with -n, -l, -r, -s, usually it is masculine. Feminine Nouns: If the noun ends in – a, usually it is feminine. *Nouns ending in “-dad” / “-tad” / “-tud” & *Nouns ending in “-ción” / “-sión” / “-gión” are also usually feminine.

Indefinite articles are “a” or “some” in English. s.p. m. f. un una unos unas They indicate nonspecific persons, places, or things.
