3. What - The American Revolution was the time period in which the 13 American colonies conflicted with Britain. The American Revolution ended the British rule over the colonies that lasted two centuries. The American Revolution ideas and changes paved the way for the modern United States of America. Why - The American Revolution occurred because colonists were unfairly being taxed on imports and exports dealing with the British to support the financial hardships.Many acts and laws such as the “Stamp Act” were imposed on the Americans. Another reason was that the Americans were being taxed without representation in Parliament. The conflicts between England and the colonies were mainly economic. When- The actual War for Independence was from 1775 to 1783. Relations between the colonies and Britain began to fizzle in 1763. The first battle of the American Revolution was in 1775 Where - The American Revolution was centered in the 13 American colonies. The southern most battle of the war was in Camden, SC in 1780. The northern most battles were at Fort Ticonderoga in 1775 and 1777.

Views of Americans Were upset because they were being taxed by King George III to fund the British Army Disliked the imposed taxes on common goods(sugar, tea, paper) to help pay off the treasury debt of England “No Taxation Without Representation”~ being taxed without representation in Parliament. Set up the Continental Congress and Continental Army Angered because trade was controlled by England During the Revolutionary War~ never gave up because wanted independence from Britain

Groups of Colonists Patriots  Group that believed in the American Revolution  Made up off different social classes  Unanimously agreed to defend rights of America Neutrals  Group that didn’t side with either English or Americans  Didn’t express what they believed in concerning the war Loyalists  20-30% of the colonists that were still devoted to the British king and Parliament  Were usually connected to the Anglican Church of England Sons of Liberty  Secret societies in every colony  Used propaganda, intimidation, and mob violence to lash out at Britain and the tax laws

Views of England  Believed colonies should pay taxes to fund British Army because it protected them in the French/Indian War and Pontiac’s Rebellion  Had been upset about patriotic acts(Boston Tea Party and boycott of English goods)  Believed had the right to tax colonies because they were first to North America and colonies were under rule of Britain.  During the Revolutionary War~ surprised the Patriots never gave up and were strong-willed

Significant Battles Battle of Lexington and Concord (1775) –The first battle of the Revolutionary War Battle of Trenton (1776) –George Washington led Continental Army across the Delaware River to surprise and eliminate Hessian troops Battle of Saratoga (1777) –The battle that inspires France to ally with the Americans Battle of Chesapeake Bay (1781) –The battle site in which the English surrendered to the Americans because the French blockaded the bay.

9. Common Sense~ Thomas Paine –An editorial that argued the only solution to problems with England was Republicanism and independence from Britain. Olive Branch Petition~ Second Continental Congress –A letter to King George III asking for him to stop colonial grievances(taxes, control of trade,etc.) before more bloodshed happened. Declaration of Independence~ drafted by Thomas Jefferson –A document that declared and expressed the reasons why the 13 colonies wanted independence from Great Britain.

10. Articles of Confederation –The first governing document of the United States of America and was replaced by the Constitution. Treaty of Paris 1783~ signed by America, Britain, and France –The treaty that had Britain recognize the independence of United States of America. The Constitution –The political document that replaced the Articles of Confederation, and created a federal union of sovereign states and a federal government.

12. The 13 colonies of England becoming an independent nation. The American Revolution showed that this land was not an extended part of Europe, but a country that had much potential. The American Revolution laid the backbone for American Republicanism~sovereignty belonged to the people and wasn’t hereditary The outcome of the revolution set the most progressive government of the time period. Inspired other nations to create the new government laid by America. Led to the government in which many dream of today~”the ideal government of citizens”
