1 Lakes Of Eurasia By: Kylee Loewe

2 Lake Baikal is one of many lakes in Eurasia. The other bodies of water that Eurasia has are: Lake Baikal, Aral Sea, and the Caspian Sea. There are no countries that boarder Lake Baikal because it is in the heart of Siberia. Since it is in the heart of Siberia its nick-name is the Pearl of Siberia. Bodies of Water in Eurasia

3 Formation Geologist estimate that Lake Baikal was formed about 20-25 million years ago during the Mesozoic. Lake Baikal was formed in an ancient rift-valley. Lake Baikal is known as one of the oldest lakes in the world. It also has 20% of the world’s fresh water!

4 Resources People use lake Baikal for fresh water and for fishing. People don’t go on a cruise or go snorkeling or scuba diving in Lake Baikal because the people who live around it want it to remain beautiful.

5 The Future Lake Baikal lies in a place where Asia is breaking apart creating a future ocean. Unlike other lakes (such as Lake Aral) Lake Baikal is not shrinking. It is 30 miles wide and 394 miles long, and the oldest and deepest lake in the world with a depth of 5,380 feet.

6 Importance Lake Baikal is very important to people because it provides them food and water. Lake Baikal is a mode of transportation for the people. Not many people live next to it because it is so cold.
