1 FCHWC Steering Committee Overview BRENDALY RODRIGUEZ, MA CO-CHAIR PATRIA ALGUILA, CO-CHAIR MARION BANZHAF, FACILITATOR September 25-26, 2014

2 Accomplishments 2013-2014  Sustainability plan:  Identified the need for fiscal sponsor  Establishing fiscal sponsorship with Health Council of South Florida  Transition in Leadership:  Developed election strategy  Brendaly Rodríguez was elected to replace Sean Dickerson  Transitioning into a completely independent organization:  Grew from original charter  Developed by-laws

3 Accomplishments(con’t) Monitoring and support between Steering Committee and workgroups: regular monthly meeting schedule for updates have allowed flexibility to respond to emergent issues, such as:  Created a process for members and non-members to submit their requests for support (Letters of Support, access to address membership, etc.)  Nominated CHW Sornia Joseph as Outstanding CHW of the Year Award to the CHW section of American Public Health Association (APHA)  Unity Conference 2014 representation  Created an implementation team to work with Florida Certification Board on certification process/development

4 Accomplishments (con’t)  Participation in 1017 Grantee Environmental Grant monthly calls  Office of Women’s Health highlighted FCHWC for the 2 Women’s Health Leadership Institutes (English/Spanish) and the translated curriculum is now used at the national level  FCHWC was highlighted at the CDC Cancer Grant Business meeting in Atlanta

5 Accomplishments (con’t)  APHA Boston 2013 – abstracted was submitted and accepted. Presented by Marion Banzhaf  Florida case was highlighted in a recent June publication titled: “Community Health Worker Credentialing – State Approaches” by Harvard Center for Health Law and Innovative Policy available at http://www.chlpi.org/projects-and-publications/health-library/http://www.chlpi.org/projects-and-publications/health-library/  St. Pete College (part of a consortium of 11 Florida colleges) applied for the TAACCCT grant where it would support regional healthcare training and employment which would be a great help to the CHW profession.  Submitted an abstract for an article submission to the Special Community Health Worker Issue of the Journal of Ambulatory Care Management scheduled for release in 2015 titled: “Supporting Florida Community Health Workers through policy: turning Collaboration into Action with CHWs as a motivating force in developing a state-wide coalition of partners in diverse Florida”
