Lathrop’s role Lathrop Intermediate has partnered with the Orange County Healthcare Agency to implement Safe Routes to School Goals: – Make it safer and easier for students to walk and bicycle to school – Encourage more students to walk and bicycle to school

Your role All students are encouraged to complete two surveys to help inform Safe Routes to School at Lathrop Intermediate. – Three-question Classroom Survey – Walkability Checklist (take home)

Classroom Survey Instructions: 1.Distribute one survey to each student. 2.Read each question aloud and ask the students to circle “yes” or “no” for each question. 3.Collect the completed surveys and place them back in the envelope. 4.Give the surveys to Principal Whitney by Wednesday, February 25 th.

Walkability Checklist Instructions: 1.Distribute one survey to each student. 2.Ask that they complete it either walking to or from school. Encourage parent participation. 3.Collect the completed surveys and place them back in the envelope. 4.Return surveys to Ms. Helstrom by Wednesday, February 25 th.

Next steps The information we gather from the surveys will inform the next steps – We will work with Lathrop ASB to conduct a Walkability Audit on the streets surrounding the school – The data collected on the Walkability Audit will be presented to an interested group (PTA, City Council, etc.) – Make recommendations and address barriers (e.g., paint over graffiti, trash pick-up, trim over- grown shrubbery, etc.)

Thank you for participating! Together we will make it safer and easier to walk and bicycle to school!
