6 th Grade English Independent Reading Contract: Due back Monday, Sept. 14 th Reading Log: Due every Friday Must be signed by a parent each week Read at least 20 minutes per night Novels: Where the Red Fern Grows (quarter 1) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (quarter 2) Island of the Blue Dolphins (quarter 3) George Muller (quarter 4) Study Guides: Each study guide is due at the end of the section we are reading. For example, if it is a “Chapters 1-5 study guide”, it is due when we have finished reading chapter 5. Oral Presentations : Sporadically throughout novels

6 th Grade English continued Class with Mrs. Rossi and Mrs. Caler Mrs. Rossi (Mon. & Wed.) 2 times a week Spelling Grammar Mrs. Caler (Thurs.) 1 time a week Spelling Writing Spelling Breakdown: Spelling pre-tests will be with Miss Kostishion on FRIDAYS Spelling practice will be with Mrs. Rossi on MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS Spelling tests will be with Mrs. Caler on THURSDAYS

6 th Grade Social Studies Current Events: Due Every Monday Major topics of Study: Ancient Egypt Ancient India/Hinduism & Buddhism Ancient China Ancient Greece Ancient Rome Ancient Arabia/Islam The Middle Ages Valley Web Radio: Online podcasts Most (but not all) projects will be in-class projects Study guides for each section read

TICKETS! You can earn tickets for good behavior When you get a ticket, put your name on it and place it in the bucket in the back of the room Every Friday we will do a ticket drawing and the winner may pick a prize
