5. 6 th Grade English  Independent Reading Contract: Due back Monday, Sept. 14 th  Reading Log: Due every Friday  Must be signed by a parent each week  Read at least 20 minutes per night  Novels:  Where the Red Fern Grows (quarter 1)  The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (quarter 2)  Island of the Blue Dolphins (quarter 3)  George Muller (quarter 4)  Study Guides:  Each study guide is due at the end of the section we are reading.  For example, if it is a “Chapters 1-5 study guide”, it is due when we have finished reading chapter 5.  Oral Presentations :  Sporadically throughout novels

7. 6 th Grade Social Studies  Current Events: Due Every Monday  Major topics of Study:  Ancient Egypt  Ancient India/Hinduism & Buddhism  Ancient China  Ancient Greece  Ancient Rome  Ancient Arabia/Islam  The Middle Ages  Valley Web Radio: Online podcasts  Most (but not all) projects will be in-class projects  Study guides for each section read

9. TICKETS!  You can earn tickets for good behavior  When you get a ticket, put your name on it and place it in the bucket in the back of the room  Every Friday we will do a ticket drawing and the winner may pick a prize
