EVALUATION/MARKS DISTRIBUTION Examinations Final Examination = 50% Tests(10% x 2)= 20% Coursework = 30% Laboratory Activity - 25% Quizzes - 5%

The aim of this course is to introduce the students about the primary elements of measurement, derivative measurements, basic component measurement and common instrument of measurement. At the end of this course, student should have full understanding on the basic instrumentation and measurement needs. COURSE SYNOPSIS

COURSE OUTCOMES CO1: Ability to explain the primary elements of measurement and instrumentation. CO2: Ability to acquire, analyze, interpret and compare related measurement instrument and methods. CO3: Ability to apply the knowledge of principles of measurement and instrumentation. CO4: Ability to acquire experimental competence on selected instrument and measurement through laboratory experiments.

COURSE CONTENT Measurement Standards and Units Define some measurement terms; remember basic measurement units; relate basic units to derivative units; describe classification of instruments. Voltage and Current Measurement Repeat and discuss concepts and principles of voltage and current; introduce to related instrument and methods. Power and Energy Measurement Repeat and discuss concepts and principles of power and energy; discuss related measurement instrument and methods.

COURSE CONTENT Resistance, Capacitance and Inductance Measurement Repeat and discuss concepts and principles of resistance, capacitance and inductance; discuss related measurement instrument and methods. Oscilloscope Discuss oscilloscope functionality; identify and remember concept and principles of oscilloscope operation; discuss and illustrate on how to use oscilloscope for complex measurement. Discuss types of oscilloscopes. Arbitrary Waveform Generator Explain arbitrary waveform generator functionality; identify and remember concept and principles of AWG operation; discuss and illustrate on how to use AWG; compare the AWG signal with setup values.
