JIM CROW 1927: Housing [Municipal Code] 80% of Chicago neighborhoods restricted Relator and Chicago Planning Association contracts Supported by University of Chicago Gained white support Neighborhoods remained segregated by choice Claybourne Park Segregation taken seriously by neighbors Karl Linder tries to bribe Younger family to leave Laws couldn’t keep people from discriminating & supporting segregation

Washington Influential African American leader with Controversial point of view Maintain African American identity rather than fight segregation Self supporting laborious jobs Large amount of Caucasian supporters W.E.B. Dubois Civil Rights Activist & Scholar Lead Niagara Movement Wanted full political, civil, and social rights for African Americans Abolish segregation & racism in America Never found a large following & diminished Shared point of view with Mama Mama disagreed with his views Saw him as a “fool” Believed African Americans should fight for their rights to complete freedom

ACCEPTANCE Accept others for who they are Disregard ethnicity Keep from judging others based on stereotypes Follow your dreams Don’t allow others to restrain you
