USING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME EFFECTIVELY Domain C5

Set up of Paper Introduce using time effectively How instruction is paced so students remain on track (not too fast/too slow) Explain why it’s important to use your time wisely How can you perform non-instructional procedures efficiently? Conclusion

Non-instructional procedures What are non-instructional procedures?  Passing back papers, handing out papers, attendance, etc… What ways do you plan on or has your current teacher taught you to do this efficiently? Have bell work options, a class manager to do this for you Complete these procedures while the students are constructively working on something else

Artifact Ideas Bell-Work Daily Edits Copy of a detailed lesson plan (include amount of time planned for each part) Anything that shows that you are using your time effectively

Why is this important? Most behavior issues occur when students are not engaged in the lesson If your lesson is paced well, students will not have as many behavior issues If a lesson is too fast, you will lose students because they don’t understand If a lesson is too slow, you will also lose students because they are bored How can you tell if you are going too fast/slow?

Using all time? Why is using all of your time important? Again, the more down-time students have, the more trouble they find. As a teacher, time is limited and curriculum keeps getting larger, you only have a limited amount of time to get all your information in Helps keep the students on-track and involved if all of the time is used appropriately

Note to students Students,  We are approaching March. This means you have 3 months left of school. You need to take a serious look at where you are right now. How is your portfolio? Are you doing everything that a senior with 3 months left in school should be doing? Are you slacking off in CPT or other classes? Do you have a thousand excuses for not having something you should have? Within 4 years you will be student teaching and I want each of you to take a serious look at both your behavior and class work and think about if it portrays a student at the level you want to be at….  Moral of the story: Get your work done, stop making excuses, and start acting responsibly both in class and out of class.
