2. PAIDEIA SEMINAR  Participation in a collaborative dialogue with open ended questions about a text  Intellectual development through critical thinking  Social development evidenced through communication skills

3. PRE-SEMINAR  Each student identifies personal goal for the seminar  The class determines goal for the entire group  Participants review objectives: listen, think, speak, refer to text, and respect  Students receive text and background information to prepare for seminar

4. TEXT  Text may be a poem, short story, graph, political cartoon, map, experiment, photograph, essay, word problem, or piece of art  Includes strong ideas and values  Appropriate level of challenge and complexity  Relevance to participants  Appropriate degree of ambiguity

5. SEMINAR  Facilitator asks open ended questions regarding the ideas and values of the text  Students utilize communication skills  Opportunities for analysis, synthesis, and evaluation

6. POST-SEMINAR  Class Reflects on Group Goal  Self-Assessment of Seminar  Extension/Enrichment Activities  Writing  Art  Music  Literature  Drama
