oneone CS-6C Objective: To measure the mass and volume of an irregularly shaped solid in order to calculate its density. CSI Note: Can you apply what you know to find the density of solids? HAVE YOU FOLLOWED THE STEPS FOR STARTING CLASS?? Drill: 1. Get a Lesson Sheet from the SET. 2. Complete the Drill portion only.
2
oneone CS-6C Examine the objects in the bag in your tote. Predict the density of each object in your Drill Book. How did you come up with your predictions?
3
oneone CS-6C Density = Mass ÷ Volume

8
oneone CS-6C 1. Record the name of the object in the data chart.
9
oneone CS-6C 2. Zero the triple beam balance.
10
oneone CS-6C 3. Place the solid on the triple beam balance, and determine its mass.
11
oneone CS-6C 4. Record the mass in the data chart. (2)
12
oneone CS-6C 5.Using a cup, add between 30mL and 60mL of water to the graduated cylinder.
13
oneone CS-6C 6. Record the volume of water in the data chart as your starting volume. (4)
14
oneone CS-6C 7. Carefully slide the object into the graduated cylinder.
15
oneone CS-6C 8. Record the total volume in the data chart. (3)
16
oneone CS-6C 9. Calculate the object volume by subtracting the starting volume from the total volume. (3 – 4)
17
oneone CS-6C 10. Record the object volume in the data chart. (5)
18
oneone CS-6C 11. Calculate the density of the object by using the formula. (2 ÷ 5)
19
oneone CS-6C 12. Record the density in the data chart. (6)

22
oneone CS-6C Think: How good were your predictions? (Draw on your dry erase board. Leave it face down.)
23
oneone CS-6C Homework: Draw a picture flow chart showing the steps for finding the density of a solid. (Words optional)
24
oneone CS-6C Objective: To measure the mass and volume of an irregularly shaped solid in order to calculate its density. CSI Note: Can you apply what you know to find the density of solids? HAVE YOU FOLLOWED THE STEPS FOR STARTING CLASS?? Drill: 1. Take out your Lesson Sheet and your Lab Sheet from our last lesson.. 2. Compare your homework with your neighbor
