The First People South Carolina Colony Founded by Lord Proprietors. Founded in 1670.

Cherokee, Catawba, Yamassee, Stono, Wando, Westo, and Kiawah were tribes in South Carolina. Gathered nuts and berries. Grew corn, beans, and squash for food. Hunted deer and wild turkeys Were treated unfairly by settlers. First People

Early Settler’s Settlements in South Carolina were slow. They hunted deer and bear. Grew corn, melons, rice, and squash. Raised pigs, cattle, chickens, and turkeys. People learned to farm on swampy lands.

Life In The Colony Slavery was used to have more money and have bigger crops. Most people could not afford to go to school. Colonist fished in rivers. Most people didn’t have lots of money. People had few items. Rice was sent to England.

Work Slaves sold guns. Hunted deer and wild turkeys. Gathered nuts and berries. Corn, melons, squash, and beans were grown. Pigs, cattle, chickens, and turkeys were grown. Rice was sent to England.

Trade In exchange for rice South Carolina was given tea which caused a lot of problems for South Carolina. Slaves were used to have more money and bigger crops.

The Community Rice was used to pay taxes. Rice was valuable. There was 125,000 people in 1769. Settlers fished as a job. Women gathered nuts and berries for food. Men who settled in Charles Town got 150 acres.

Religion Some people came for religious reasons. Some religious group was the Quakers, Lutherans, Jews, and French Huguenots. Every group wanted religious freedom. Baptist also moved to South Carolina from the New England Colonies.

Becoming a State South Carolina used to be Carolina but in 1712 Carolina was split into North and South Carolina. Charles Town was founded in 1670 by settlers.

Statehood South Carolina used to be Carolina, but in 1712 Carolina was split into North and South Carolina In March 1670 settlers found Charles Town. On May 23,1788 South Carolina became the 8 th state.

Important Facts South Carolina was located in the Southern Colony. South Carolina was not named after anyone or anything South Carolina was used to be Carolina but was spilt and got the name South Carolina. In 1769 there were 125,000 people living in South Carolina. The first settlement in South Carolina was Charles Town. South Carolina was the richest colony. Men who settled in Charles Town got 150 acres of land.
