2 UC Designated the State's primary academic research institution. Provides undergraduate, graduate and professional education UC is given exclusive jurisdiction in public higher education for doctoral degrees and for instruction in law, medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine.

Faculty research is authorized consistent with the primary function of instruction. Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in educational leadership and other doctorates can be awarded jointly with UC or an independent institution.

7 CSU Main Focus Prepare the majority of students to enter job market after completion of Bachelor’s degree (practical based; Theory and research also included) More undergraduate majors with professional training Prepares about 60 percent of the teachers in the state Produces 40 percent of the engineering graduates, and more graduates in business, agriculture, communications, health, education and public administration than all other California universities and colleges combined.
