The Book and the Blood 2 nd Sunday of Hatour

Origen  "[Christ's words] are not only those which he spoke when he became a man and tabernacled in the flesh; for before that time, Christ, the Word of God, was in Moses and the prophets....[their words] were filled with the Spirit of Christ.”

Moses and the blood 6 And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.” 8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words.” Ex 24:6-8

St Paul’s testimony  19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.”..22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. Heb 9:19-22

Now !!!  23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; Heb 9:23,24

Origen  Whoever reads the Prophets carefully will be convinced that they are no human achievement. The reader will understand the meaning of divine inspiration.

They ate and drank  9 Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity. 11 But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank. Ex 24:9-11

Hearing the word  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17

In His Flesh  “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is His flesh; and having a High Priest over the house of God; let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water” (Heb. 10.19-21).

St Athanasius  [When the Lord stretched His hands on the cross, He conquered the prince of the power of air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience (Eph. 2:2), preparing the road to heaven for us.]

Effectively works  For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. 1 Thes 2:13

Application ① Focus on the Word ② Focus on the power of the blood ③ Focus on the protection of the blood through obeying the Word ④ The blood is on the alter, Do you adore It as it should be?
