Antarctica
2
Antarctica - is the world’s fifth largest and southernmost continent and it is mostly covered with ice.
4
Its position at the South Pole, together with its elevation and ice- and-snow cover, generates the coldest climate on earth. Its enormous ice sheet covers all but two to three percent of Antarctica and extends over the encircling ocean.
5
The Continent is more than a half as large as the United States and covers about 14, 245,000 sq. km (5,500,000 sq. miles) including 1,640,000 sq. km (633,000 sq. miles) of floating ice shelves. At least a third of the coastline is hidden beneath perennial ice.

Continent is subdivided into two major part: 1. West Antarctica which is South America. 2. East Antarctica in the eastern hemisphere.
13
Topography 2 topographies. 1. Perennial snow and ice 2. One of land
14
The snow and ice of east Antarctica is an irregularly shaped elliptical dome that rises to maximum elevation of more than 4, 267 meters. While the surface of the ice sheet in west Antarctica is much more irregular. In west Antarctica only other large area of ice surface above 2000 meters is that in the Executive Committee Range near the cost between the Amundsen Sea and the Ross sea.
15
(1957- 1958) - the International Geophysical years. (IGY) Climate - the Antarctic polar climate boundary( 10 degrees Centigrade or 50 degrees Fahrenheit) encompasses about 12 percent of the surface of the globe, an area twice as large as that of the Article.
16
Antarctic Life Most of the life on around the Antarctic continent is supported by the sea.
