Where is God? 2 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Experience 3 Necessary vs. Sufficient Air is composed to Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen Hydrogen and Nitrogen are Necessary for the air we breathe, but we cannot breathe pure hydrogen or nitrogen. Oxygen is Sufficient for the air we breathe because we can breathe pure oxygen. Can you think of other examples?

Experience 4 Consider thunder, in the technical sense, the acoustic quality demonstrated by the shock wave that inevitably results from any lightning bolt in the atmosphere. It may fairly be said that thunder is necessary for lightning, since lightning cannot occur without thunder, too, occurring. That is, if lightning does occur, then there is thunder. But thunder is not sufficient to make lightening. Being at least 30 years old is necessary of serving in the U.S. Senate. If you are under 30 years old then it is impossible for you to be a senator. That is, if you are a senator, it follows that you are at least 30 years old. Again, being 30 or more is not sufficient to make you a US Senator. Jesus Christ is both necessary and sufficient for us!

Discussion & reflection: 6 Can you think of an everyday example that would talk about the certainty of Jesus’ resurrection? Clement of Rome (fl 100, Italy) Let us consider, beloved, how the lord is constantly showing us that there will be a resurrection…Let us take the harvest…The sower had gone out and cast each of the seeds in the ground, and when they fall, dry and naked into the ground they disintegrate. Then from this disintegration the mighty providence of the Lord makes them rise again, and from the one arise many bearing fruit.

Discussion & reflection: 7 Is Sunday worship a joy, ok or a pain? And why????? Gregory of Nyssa (c 335 - 394+, Turkey) If the birthday of a human king …opens his prison, will Christ, in His rising, not bring release to those in tribulation? Beggars, receive your food…
8
Discussion & reflection: 8 When Jesus rose from the grave, what gift did you receive??? Marius Victorinus (4th Century, Italy) What was fulfilled in Christ in the flesh was this: that he should save souls and also cause immortality to be given to the flesh through resurrection…When we rise and are changed…the body in which we have been humbled will be raised. It will be of the same and an equal form to the body of Christ’s only glory.

Discussion & reflection: 9 Is it important to remember what your are learning here? Tertullian (c 160 - c 220, Italy) We imagined, said the disciples at Emmaus, that this one was the redeemer of Israel...Therefore he rebuked them because the passion was sufficient to cause them scandal and because they shrank from putting faith in the resurrection...
10
Discussion & reflection: 10 Do you have any doubt that Jesus is sufficient for your eternal life? Athanasius (c 296 /298 - 2 May 373, Egypt) When after night the sun rises…not the slightest doubt remains that the sun…drove away the darkness…In just the same way, death was trampled … when the Savior changed his appearance in the body for our salvation.

Discussion & reflection: 11 What do you miss when you miss a Sunday??? Gregory of Nyssa (c 335 - 394+, Turkey) He has wiped out summarily every memory of our condemnation. Then, children were born in sorry; now, there is birth without pangs. Then, we were born as flesh from flesh; now, we are born spirit from spirit. Then, we were born as sons of humankind; now, as children of God…
12
Discussion & reflection: 12 The Holy Bible says that Jesus ascended (rose, returned) to heaven. So what??? What does this mean to you??? Gregory of Nyssa (c 335 - 394+, Turkey) It is the beginning of another creation. For in this day God makes “a new heaven and a new earth,” as the prophet says (Isaiah 65.17) What king of heaven? The heaven of faith in Christ. What kind of earth? I mean the good heart…
