2 Welcome to 2 nd Semester ELA Mrs. Kinsella My Goals 1. Ensure that all students Pass/Exceed Georgia Middle Grades Writing Assessment 2. Ensure that all students Pass/Exceed CRCT

3 Entry Procedure Arrive on time, greet Mrs. Kinsella at the door. Enter room and go directly to your seat Immediately begin the warm up activity or read your novel Remember this is quiet time. No talking or moving about.

4 Exit Procedure Clean your area Organize your things Reflect on one thing you have learned today (bell doesn’t dismiss you) Wait patiently for dismissal from teacher Leave the class in an orderly fashion

5 Instruction/Presentation Turn your chair to face the presenter Use active listening Sit quietly Talk only when instructed If requested, raise hand to ask questions Take notes if requested

6 Restroom Procedure Ask teacher politely by raising your hand with two fingers up (avoid instructional time) Sign out on the sheet; take the restroom pass Go directly to the restroom and return to class. Use care and responsibility while out. Sign in when you return.

7 When You Finished Early Make a selection from one of the following if you complete an assignment Silently read a book of your choice Proofread or revise any papers Illustrate a concept taught in class Write a journal entry about what we learned in class for someone who is absent Get started on your homework

8 Team Work You will be assigned to a group. Within your group you will be assigned a duty. For example; facilitator, liaison, reporter, etc. No side-bar conversations during team activities, all group members focused on the task at hand. You must contribute proportionately to your team.

9 Teacher Attention If I raise my hand, you are to stop talking, face me, and also raise your hand until everyone in the classroom has stopped talking and I lower my hand. NO EXCEPTIONS

10 Being Prepared Bring required materials: *3-ring binder with wide-ruled notebook paper *Blue/Black Pen or Pencil *Novel from home or media center *Textbook

12 Trash a.Trash will be thrown away when your are dismissed from class. Keep it at your desk until you are dismissed. b.Pick up all paper around your desk before leaving the room.

13 Walking In The Hallways As A Class A.Students are expected to walk in a straight line when in the hallway. B.There will be NO TALKING in line. Other students are still in class. C.All class rules apply in the hallway.

15 Assignment 1. Write down three academic goals you have for the 2 nd semester (write in complete sentences). 2. Choose one goal from your list and write three detailed paragraphs explaining how you will accomplish that goal. Your paragraph should include an introduction, body paragraph and a conclusion. Make sure you include supporting details and specific examples. 3. Write your paragraph on the notebook paper (don’t forget your heading---name, period, date).
