Off to College, but which way do I go? By: Mike Serino Grade Level: 11- Social Studies / Geography
2
Introduction As of 2008 roughly 63% of high school graduates attend college. We are seeking to raise this percentage nationwide and I believe that motivation is the key to success. I want you all to strive and achieve excellence throughout your college years so you need to begin to choose which college you want to attend and how you wish to get to your respective university for a visit.
3
Task You are graduating high school in the near future. The goals of this Webquest are to help guide you through choosing what college you wish to attend and then generating driving directions to your respective school with the intentions of a campus visit. You must have a Cover Page which will include your name, instructors name, class and date. You must have an Intro page which will document your proposed institution to attend. You must also have a References page. (Hint: You may use Google Maps as one of your references along with those in Procedure Step 1.) All work including the actual driving directions print-out will be stapled together and handed into your instructor.
4
Procedure Step 1 You will access the various websites listed below and select a college of your choice based on what you intend to study and/or geographic location. To guide you through deciding on a college, please refer to the below listings. http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/index.jsp http://www.studentsreview.com/ http://www.college.gov/wps/portal http://www.colleges.com/ http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges http://www.usnews.com/education/best- colleges/articles/2011/04/04/10-steps-to-picking-the-right- college http://www.usnews.com/education/best- colleges/articles/2011/04/04/10-steps-to-picking-the-right- college
5
Procedure Step 2 Access the websites and decide which college you wish to attend. Please take note of the address of the main campus and you will then need to generate driving directions through Google Maps in order to attend your campus visit. Procedure Step 3 Access Google Maps at the following web address: http://maps.google.com/ http://maps.google.com/
6
Procedure Step 4 While on the Google Maps site, on the top dialogue box type in either the university you wish to visit, or the address of the university you wish to visit if you noted it from step 2. When your search is found after clicking search, you will then select “Directions” and type in your point of origin to then generate the driving directions.
7
Procedure Step 5 Your driving directions will now be available to you. You will then click “Print All” on the top right of the map shown. You will then print your directions and staple the sheets together in order to have them handy in the car with you.
