2 Results of “Near Depression” of 2008-2010 Massive job cuts Stagnant wages High rate of real estate foreclosures Kids living at home longer Stock market/401k crash that forced workers near retirement age to keep working Underemployment in all demographic groups

3 The Good News The unemployment rate has steadily improved from a recession high of 10.2% in 2009 to the November/2014 of 5.8% and most recent figure of 5% in November of 2015. Wages are starting to rise. We now have a war for the best talent in technology, healthcare, marketing, recruiting, product engineering, CAD designers, accounting, finance, supply chain, construction management, trades and other areas.

4 Proceed With Caution! Not all lost jobs have been recovered since the end of the recession. Skills in demand are often a moving target. There are too many low paying jobs that people take not by choice but out of necessity. How long can the current demand for talent last?

5 Hot Industries Alternative Energy: solar and wind turbine engineers and technicians Healthcare: doctors, nurses, PA’s, medical assistants, home health aides, physical & occupational therapists IT: data scientists, web developers, software developers, computer support specialists Mobile: app developers, product developers, testers Construction: engineers, project managers, estimators, administrators, trades All of these industries hire administrative, human resources, accounting, financial, sales, customer service, supply chain and other support staff.
