Our EYFS Vision At Emmanuel School our EYFS experience is magical. We aim to create a fun and exciting learning environment where high quality first teaching is at the forefront of everything we do. Our staff are dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for ALL our children. Our children are happy, engaged and independent learners.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The EYFS is a framework that schools must follow when educating children under 5 years old. Each of these areas have ‘statements’ which are split into different month bands. They outline what children should be able to do at each month in each area.

What is Good EYFS Teaching?
Good EYFS teaching provides a platform for children to perform on. This is done through skilled planning which allows for creative play and learning. In the EYFS children learn through play.

After Literacy Time, it is ‘Choosing Time’. All areas in the classroom are set up with activities linked to their topic and to the age band statements for the EYFS areas.

After Numeracy Time, it is ‘Choosing Time’. Depending on how popular the activities are, dictates whether certain activities will stay out from the morning session or whether new activities will come out.

Additional Information
Children have snack time every day at 10:00am. Ruby and Diamond Class have PE and music on Wednesdays. PE is taught by Mr Spadaccini. Music is taught by Miss Granger. Homework goes home on a Friday and is to be returned by Wednesday. Free choice books are changed for your child on Wednesdays.

Emmanuel EYFS Rules Snacks must be eaten while sitting on the carpet.
Children have to wear an apron when painting or playing in the water. 3 children are allowed on the climbing frame at one time. Good sitting and good listening are expected on the carpet. Children can raise a ‘quiet hand’ if they would like to answer a question or say something. Children can go to the toilet anytime they want.

What do our EYFS staff do all day?
Adults have numerous jobs throughout the day. These include: Teaching lessons Observing and facilitating indoor and outdoor learning Leading small group activities linked to key areas of learning Making observations to be added to each child’s portfolio as evidence of their learning Story telling Interventions Working with outside agencies eg. A speech therapist

How can you help? Reading with your child each night
Encouraging them to be independent at home Completing the homework set and returning it to school Practise the following with your child: writing their name, numbers up to 10 or 20, putting their coat on etc. Parents evenings are coming up next week. Do ask your class teacher any questions you might have
