TWIB BACKGROUND A national programme initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in 1998 in partnership with various stakeholders the dti strives to advance women in business to encourage a drive toward competitiveness and socio-economic transformation Presently TWIB is located at the CSIR in Pretoria.

3. OUR VISION “To grow and sustain women’s enterprises through the use of technology”.

4. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES  Creating awareness on the importance of using technology for women entrepreneurs  Promoting and facilitating access to technology Encourage creativity and competitiveness through the use of technology.

OBJECTIVES CONTINUED  Identify and promote relevant best practices and models.  Identify and facilitate relevant training and technology transfer processes for women’s enterprises.  Encouraging entrepreneurship and influencing young women to follow careers in science, engineering and technology through our Techno-girl Programme

12. PROJECTS : WATER2WOMEN AMADRUM A household water treatment plant benefits people with no access or limited access to sustainable potable water linked to a rotomoulding technology transfer project producing the main component of the AmaDrum

13. WASTE2WOOD SIYATYALA PROJECT A nursery dedicated to the cultivation of fibre and food plants through technology transfer to benefit women entrepreneurs.

14. BEAUTY-I-SLICES Manufacturing, marketing and sale of hydro gel cosmetic products impregnated with natural herbs for purposes of eye treatments

15. NEW PROJECT: INFOPRENEUR NETWORK To train a network of Infopreneurs that provides information technology (IT) and computer literacy, upgrading the centre into a business info centre. The aim is to build and equip existing women-owned businesses.

17. CONCLUSION TWIB facilitates technology-based business solutions to women-owned enterprises and in the process, unlocking constraints for women entrepreneurs. This is done in partnership with technology experts, scientific researchers, and business support structures.
