5 Why attend the CTE Academy? Career-focused education Explore careers at no cost before graduation Relevant, hands-on learning opportunities Solve real-life problems in class 15 different programs to choose from Possible to earn college credit in many programs

6 CTE Academy design Students travel to CTE Academy for a block of time out of their regular school day. Transportation is provided for students from home high schools in Sioux Falls. Students may also drive their own vehicles. Fall semester 2014 enrollment = over 900 Fall 2010 =550 Enrollment capacity = 960 students Nine surrounding districts = 165 slots each semester Regional design increases student opportunities Located west of I-29 and Madison St.

7 Enrollment remains at home high school Extracurricular activities at home high school Attend Academy one of three scheduled blocks during the school day Exploratory & introductory CTE courses remain at regular high schools (Welding, Intro to Auto, FACS, Woods) Double class period = 1 full credit per semester *Also counts double toward GPA Blocks scheduled for 1 hour 40 minutes –Block 1 = 7:45 am to 9:25 am –Block 2 = 9:40 am to 11:20 am –Block 3 = 1:20 pm to 3:00 pm Student Daily Schedule

State-of-the-art, high-tech facility for ALL students Students interested in rigorous and specialized advanced training Students range from 9 th to 12 th grade Program completion may lead to industry- recognized certification in some programs Students are prepared for advanced training programs, two or four-year post-secondary education, or entry-level work

16 Project Lead the Way ® Pre-Engineering Program –Introduction to Engineering Design™ –Principles of Engineering™ –Digital Electronics™ –Engineering Design and Development™ ** PLTW courses approved for weighted grades and students can earn college credit. Over 150 colleges and universities in U.S. grant credit to students, including Augustana College in Sioux Falls (up to 12 credits).
