Syeda Fatima Qasmi Ivy Tech Community College

Standard# 3: Learning Environments The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation. Name of Artifact: Teacher Interview Project Date: February, 7, 2014 Course: EDUC 101 Brief Description: I interviewed two practicing K-12 teachers for this assignment. Through this assignment I was able to learn different strategies of teaching, and how and in what means they view teaching. After this session I had a clear idea about making my decision more firm and in choosing teaching as a career. Rationale: To document my understanding of Standard #3 Learning Environments, I included interviews of two teachers. This assignment enables me to understand the various methods of teachers belonging to different ethnicities.

 I chose teaching because I wanted to spread knowledge and help people.  Teach Islamic studies.  He was a professor at University of Damascus, Damascus.  M.S., Political Science / International Relations and B.S., Islamic Law.  Manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school.

According to Tewfik Choukri:  Practice  Ethics  Endurance  Hope  Treating students as the center of the Earth

According to Tewfik Choukri:  Mercy A Teacher must be merciful as it allows one to understand students and teach accordingly to convey the right message, in a right manner.

According to Tewfik Choukri: If you know how to start you should know how to end. The beliefs and philosophy of teaching in me has always been the same as I follow the path and guidelines of Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him who taught and preached all his life and therefore according to me philosophy, beliefs, and values have never been changed and will always be the same.

According to Tewfik Choukri:  Make lesson plan  Open ended questions  Try to maintain standards even higher than the state, which lead our students to get enrolled in the finest universities of North America.

According to Tewfik Choukri:  Experience the joy of making a difference.  Be a lifelong learner.  Have a high level of autonomy.  Working with kids provide many opportunities for laughter.

According to Tewfik Choukri:  Parents are required to do volunteer work at school.  Through emails.  Open door policy: Parents are most welcome to see us if they have any questions or concerns.  Ethnic days allows them to come along with their kids and set parents teachers conference.

 Ignorance.  Lack of means.

According to Tewfik Choukri:  I think it’s a punishment from State as the State has no idea what is going on in the school since most of the students are foreigners and English is a second language for them. To top it all off no curriculum is provided to teach students. And when they get low grades, school, students, and teachers all are labeled as failures.  ISTEP scores are fake grades, that do not reflect the school standard at all.

According to Tewfik Choukri:  When I see my graduated kids coming back and organizing youth progress committee for letting future graduates know how they are standing in the place today and sharing their secretive success with them  Their enrollment into best universities and scholarships reflects my success.

According to Tewfik Choukri:  Teaching is a philosophy.  When you teach you engage yourself in a commitment of helping people.  It is a novel job which allows teachers to mold the future through impacting their students’ views and understandings.  Hence for a teacher learning never ends as new ideas are opposed by each student each day, therefore teachers learn and spread.

 Enjoy learning and spreading knowledge.  Teaching AP Government and Economics to high school students, and Arabic language at MTI school since the year 2004  Education: Bachelor's degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies Bachelor's degree in Comparative Arab-English Literature Holds MA degree in Political science, Applied Sociology, and International Relations.

According to Amir Zahid  A teacher should be prepared.  Follow up the lesson plan.

According to Amir Zahid  Honesty

According to Amir Zahid  I used to follow stage on the stage policy. But really students and the teacher need to be part of the classroom.

According to Amir Zahid  Three very important strategies: 1. Follow rules and meet certain expectations. 2. Be prepared. 3. Follow a deadline.

According to Amir Zahid  When I first started to teach AP classes I requested parents to come and watch the teacher to give constructive feed backs.  Parents are required to volunteer certain hours at school.  We arrange parents teachers conference.

According to Amir Zahid  Patience is the most challenging aspect has to possessed by all the teachers.

According to Amir Zahid  ISTEP’s goal is to know if the students are being taught, but really I personally think it is mere a pressure over children rather than grading their abilities or what they deserve.

According to Amir Zahid  Two ways that allow me to know if I’m successful: 1. Students respect teacher. 2. And parents are satisfied with the teacher.

According to Amir Zahid  Always have patience, be honest, and prudent with students parents and your profession.  Never quit learning and improving yourself as a teacher.

Teaching is beloved to God and His Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him as God revealed His book upon Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him and he preached and taught all his life. Teacher interview project was very helpful as it allowed me to better understand the whole philosophy of teaching. Teachers are the leaders and according to John F. Kennedy leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. After interviewing both the teachers I definitely want to become a teacher so I can serve whole humanity, spread knowledge, and learn as much as I can. Since knowledge has no limits, therefore, can be learned anywhere, any place, and at any time. Teaching is a profession that does not just stays in a classroom. A teacher must have a kind heart so one can better understand its learner. There is no fixed teaching style as both teachers had somewhat different views from each other. However both are the best known teachers in the school and have different views as well as teaching strategies. A teach must know that it is the most difficult job as learning and teaching for a teacher never ends. A good teacher have good heart as they try their best to make their students learn and see them successful in every path of life.
