1 WebQuests “One-Stop Shopping” for Technology Infusion Across the Curriculum Presented by Patricia Espejo Library Media Specialist Academy I Middle School, Jersey City, NJ 201-369-9219pespejo@jcboe.org

2 What is a WebQuest  An inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by students is online. By providing links necessary to complete the quest, the student is able to focus on the material rather than spend time looking for it. The five-part WebQuest (Introduction, Task, Resources, Process, Evaluation, and Conclusion) promotes critical thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation. www.netnet.org/students/student%20glossary.htm www.netnet.org/students/student%20glossary.htm

3 Why Use WebQuests?  WebQuests use scaffolding.  Students can proceed at their own pace.  Students don’t get lost in the “surfing” process.  Can cover all content areas or a single subject.  Students work on authentic tasks.

4 WebQuests:  Help to develop a student’s critical thinking skills.  Are a great cooperative learning activity.  Help to increase student interest and motivation.
