Supplemental Nutrition Program FOR Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Last year in Oregon, over 160,000 participants receive benefits from the WIC program every month. 12,620 served in Marion County

All States All 36 Counties in Oregon Between 1/3-1/2 of all births are WIC clients Federally funded only. No Oregon funding. Salem, Stayton, Silverton & Woodburn WIC is everywhere!

Citizenship is NOT required to receive WIC services. Legal Status Participation in WIC will not impact a participant’s ability to receive other services or to attain citizenship.

What happens at a WIC visit? A WIC counselor will… Measure for height and weight Assess iron levels Complete a health assessment Offer nutrition education Refer to a nutritionist or community resources

Farm Direct Program Includes WIC Clients & Seniors Department of Agriculture, Oregon Health Authority, Seniors & People w/Disabilities In 2014, 699 farmers received $479,261 in revenue from WIC clients WIC clients and seniors receive $20-$60 to use during a season WIC participants can take fruit & vegetable vouchers to the farmers market & farm stands! Season runs from June-October

Breastfeeding promotion and support Oregon’s breastfeeding initiation rates are the best in the US! WIC offers: Peer counseling Breastfeeding consults & classes Breast pumps Collaboration with local health care providers
