1 A top-level domain (TLD), sometimes referred to as a top- level domain name, is the last part of an Internet Domain name, that is, the group of letters that follow the final dot of any domain name. For example…..in the URL…..www.google.com com (or COM) is the Top Level Domain. TLD’s are generally organized into categories that are established by organizations who oversee management of the Internet.

2 Here are a few of the most commonly used Top Level Domain Names.mil Military The.mil TLD is limited to use by the U.S. military..gov Governmental The.gov TLD is limited to U.S. governmental entities and agencies (mostly but not exclusively federal).

3 .edu Educational The.edu TLD is limited to institutions of learning.org Organization This is an open TLD; any person or entity is permitted to register.com Commercial This is an open TLD; any person or entity is permitted to register
