GTF – HDFS GRADUATE STUDENT TEACHING COMMUNITY Create a supportive teaching community for graduate students in HDFS Including both experienced and new grad students Goals: Discussing common concerns and solutions Sharing course topics within HDFS courses Collaborating on preparing ideas and materials for class Encouraging guest lecturing in areas of expertise Facilitating classroom observation Creating and compiling an online resource bank Food will be provided!

GRADUATE TEACHING FELLOWSHIP - GTF One of the The Ohio State Teaching Enhancement Programs (OSTEP) For senior graduate students to “develop new, discipline–specific teaching support activities for other GTAs in their units” Goals: “Enhance student learning by providing structured, ongoing teaching support to Graduate Teaching Associates Establish collegiality and sharing of program ideas across disciplines Provide assistance to units in designing and implementing enhanced GTA programs” Must be nominated and apply Get paid and get money for the department http://ucat.osu.edu/professional-development/learning-communities/ostep/graduate-teaching-fellows/

COURSE DESIGN INSTITUTE An intensive five-part workshop Hands-on guidance from UCAT staff Focus on designing or redesigning a specific course “Provides participants with the tools, time, and support they need as they work to build or rebuild effective, student-centered courses” Create the basic structure of a course including: Plans for a syllabus Assignments Assessment tools Course outline http://ucat.osu.edu/ucat-events/course- design-institutes/
