Objective: Learn to use metric units of mass and capacity (4-8).

Metric Units of Mass Gram (g) – Unit of mass in the metric system. (Ex. paper clip, pencil, peanut, CD). Kilogram (kg) – Metric unit of mass. One kilogram equals 1,000 grams. (Ex. bag of sugar, textbook, desk, laptop computer). Milligram (mg) – Metric unit of mass. One milligram equals one thousandth of a gram. (Ex. grain of salt, grain of sugar, needle, feather).

Metric Units of Capacity Capacity=liquid Liter (L) – basic unit of capacity in metric system. A liter is a little more than a quart. (Ex. small pitcher, water in bathtub, gas in tank, pail, bottle of milk). Milliliter (mL) –metric unit of capacity. One milliliter equals one-thousandth of a liter. (Ex. Eyedropper, drops of food coloring, spoonful of medicine, glass of juice, can of soup).
