HI MY NAME IS CINDY EDU 336 Evaluations of E-learning Introduction

ABOUT ME I live in New Hampshire but was born and raised in Florida; I traded the sun for snow. I have a wonderful husband, two grown children, one dog, and two cats. Click each image or text box below to find out more about me. Why Instructional Design Concepts of Interest Syllabus Reflection

MY SON TERRY Terry is 20 years old and currently studying to be a Korean Linguist in the Air Force. We are very proud of his choice to serve our country. Aside from the military Terry likes to play video games. Like any teenager he spent hours on the computer and this led to a love of programming and anything to do with computer technology. He also plays the drums, guitar, bass, and bells. Even thought he looks all grown up, he’s still my baby boy; just don’t tell him I said so! BACK

MY DAUGHTER ESIA Esia is 24 and works at a learning center. She is a preschool teacher to 4 and 5 year olds. Esia says she has the best job ever because she gets to finger paint every day and they pay her for it! She was my motivation for continuing my education. Esia graduated from Plymouth State, New Hampshire 3 years ago. She received a BA in Science and graduated Cum Laude. My goal is to beat her GPA; so far I am on track. She lives close by so we have Mommy/Daughter time pretty regularly; yes she still calls me Mommy! BACK

MY HUBBY Danny and I met almost 28 years ago. He was the Pizza Delivery guy and I ordered a Pizza. Who would have thought you could meet your soulmate over a slice of pizza? We are empty nesters now so it is time to get to know each other again. He is a software developer for a curriculum based development company. Yes, he creates the software we use in our online classrooms. If you ever submit an assignment to Waypoint you can see his handy work. He also plays drums, guitar, and bass. When he has time he plays video games (now I you know where my son gets it). BACK

ANAKIN This is my nutty dog Anakin. He is a 10 year old Puggle (mix pug and beagle). He’s a goofy dog and loves to run and play fetch. He is motivated by food so we have to keep a lot of treats on hand. Anakin doesn’t realize he is a dog so he acts like a rebellious teenager one minute and a whiney toddler the next. I still love him! BACK

LUKE AND LEIA Yes, you heard that right, we are pretty nerdy in this family. The twins are the youngest members of the family, only a year old. They are silly and energetic as you can imagine two kitties can be. Leia is Daddy’s girl and has him wrapped around her paw. Luke is my big man; he is actually twice the size of Leia (hard to see in this picture). His front paws are double pawed and he uses them like thumbs. Meaning, he opens doors if they aren’t closed fully. We have to watch out! BACK

WHY INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN Family is a big motivator for me in most things I do. However, this one is for me! I work in the corporate learning and development field. I have been designing training material for the last 8 years. This is not to say I know all the tricks of the trade. That is exactly why I am here. I am self taught so I only know so much and what I don’t know I hope to learn here. I love what I do; creating material to educate others is inspiring. Teaching one other person a new skill is the ultimate act of paying it forward. I plan to expand my knowledge into the K-12 area and maybe beyond to College level. BACK

TWO CONCEPTS OF INTEREST I have enjoyed pretty much all of my classes, even the general education courses. When I think back the two that stand out the most is Principles of Instructional Design and Learning & The Brain. During Principles of Instructional Design we reviewed the basics and how design works. In particular the way Dick and Carey System Approach (2009) and Kemp, Morrison, and Ross’s Instructional Design Plan (2007) used ADDIE but had more flexibility to revisit each area. I was amazed at how the brain works during Learning & The Brain. I brought this knowledge back to my work team and we are now in process of implementing some of the sensory development techniques in our training material. I took the approach of Adult Learning but soon realized the Adult Learner and the Adolescent can use the same pathways to learn and explore. It all starts with the cerebrum and how it processes information from sensory input. Each lobe of the brain works together to form long term, short term, and working memory. BACK

SYLLABUS REFLECTION Objective 4 – Utilize evaluation results to improve course content, delivery, and student learning. I find this intriguing because I struggle with bringing it all together at evaluation and beyond with feedback. So many times I am stuck with “I don’t like it” or “It didn’t do the job for us”. This objective will help me take the knowledge from feedback to develop each component better than the last. When evaluation comes into play the learner has the tools and knowledge to apply skills. It is not about copy and paste or memorization. We make the most impact when we learn a skill. Utilizing evaluation results gives us the knowledge to improve as we go. I can build better programs this way and my students really begin to learn! Thank You Create Evaluate Improve BACK or

THANK YOU! I look forward to meeting all of you and future discussions!
