Additional funding is available for dissertations and research presentations. Evaluation for acceptance is based on the applicant’s scholastic record, GRE scores, experience and compatibility with teaching or research needs. The University is a participant in the Academic Common market. Program Features Research opportunities are available due to the high level of research productivity in the department. Graduate students are afforded the opportunity to become well-rounded researchers via coursework, special projects, and experience. Industry partnerships with many corporate headquarters of leading advisory board members add to the graduate experience. The program offers the opportunity to work on industry-related projects through various class projects and research contracts. Professional development is encouraged by graduate student involvement in faculty research that results in scholarly presentations and publications. Funding opportunities are available campus-wide for scholarly presentations at conferences and instructional enhancement. Faculty members are diverse in their areas of expertise and provide the opportunity for graduate exposure to many facets of industries. The Hospitality and Tourism faculty members have achieved international, national and regional leadership. An optimal graduate experience aids in developing future professional linkages among program cohorts. Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Concentration Graduates with the Hospitality and Tourism Management concentration have been highly sought for teaching and research faculty positions at major universities. Our Ph.D. graduates are successful in obtaining academic positions at well-recognized universities. Our recent graduates are placed with Florida State University, Georgia State University, Southern Illinois State University, Brevard University, and Salem University. I graduated from the Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism (HRT) Ph.D. program at the University of Tennessee in 2013. Looking back on my experiences in Knoxville, I would proudly recommend this program to anyone interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in hospitality and tourism. The department’s commitment to academic excellence in both research and teaching prepared me (and my fellow graduate students) for success in the academic community.
