Digital Temperature Gauge Project Proposal ECE 4330 Patricia Kaminski System Overview Hardware Design Software Design Testing Extended Design

NextPrevious System Overview System will sense temperature and report back to the user through the terminal Demonstrates the programming and use of a complex external device with the Atmel AVR Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word. Return to PowerPoint. From Insert Menu, select Object… Click “Create from File” Locate File name in “File” box Make sure “Display as Icon” is checked. Click OK Select icon From Slide Show Menu, Select Action Settings. Click “Object Action” and select “Edit” Click OK

NextPrevious Hardware Design Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word. Return to PowerPoint. From Insert Menu, select Object… Click “Create from File” Locate File name in “File” box Make sure “Display as Icon” is checked. Click OK Select icon From Slide Show Menu, Select Action Settings. Click “Object Action” and select “Edit” Click OK Uses the Dallas DS1821 Programmable Digital Thermostat and Thermometer connected to PD2 Temp reporting by RS232 to terminal

NextPrevious Software Design The Dallas DS1821 part is programmed by commands as given in http://pdfserv.maximic. com/en/ds/DS1821.pdf TRANSACTION SEQUENCE The transaction sequence for accessing the DS1821 via the 1-Wire port is as follows: –Initialization –DS1821 Function Command –Data Transmitted/Received Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word.

NextPreviousTesting Testing will be accomplished by comparing reported values from the terminal to an external thermometer. Temperature changes will be made from an external heat producing device. Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word.

NextPrevious Extended Design The basic design can be extended to an overheating part cooling system (much like a PC processor fan) by the addition of an electric motor based fan controlled by the AVR in a closed loop in the same fashion as in Lab 6/7/8 The fan can be triggered by a temperature threshold and run at a variable speed based on the recorded temperature Instructions: Delete sample document icon and replace with working document icons as follows: Create document in Word.
