CEA DSM Dapnia DIRAC-Phase-1 Annual Report meeting - Bernard GASTINEAU - R3B-GLAD Magnet - DIRAC-Phase-1 Annual Report meeting26 September 2006 4 Check of the Large Acceptance (September 2006): In order to get the acceptance of the magnet, we have to respect several geometrical conditions difficult to put together : -A beam size of +/- 80 mrad horizontally and vertically from the target, -transparency to Neutrons & to 1 GeV Proton trajectories in a 2.4 T field, -a free space of 1 meter around the target, for detectors, -A vacuum connection between the beam pipe and the cryostat, -Thermal screen and thick inner vacuum vessel to resist to the pressure, -And thick cold casing around the coils to maintain the magnetic forces. The geometrical optimisation has given the following new parameters: -Distance from the Target to the magnetic entrance face = 1.450 m, -A fixed horizontal angle of beam incidence / magnet axis = 14 degrees, -vertical and horizontal angles of the main and lateral coils = 5° and 18.6°, And we have to verify that the fringe field is < 20 mT around the target.
