A simile compares two different things using the words like or as. Writers use similes to make writing more interesting and to create better mind movies for the reader.
Examples:
The sun felt like a warm blanket.
From the airplane, the cars looked like toys.
On opening day, the cashiers were as busy as bees.
The robbers tiptoed through the house as quiet as a mouse.
