First-Year Engineering Program Solar Cell Lab Investigation of Solar Cells How Solar Cells work Understand different characteristics and their impact on practical usage P. 1
2
First-Year Engineering Program Task 1 Setup P. 2 Note: Banana Plug stacking
3
First-Year Engineering Program Task 2: Set Solar Meter on stand and place under light to adjust height P. 3 Note: adjust solar meter position to maximum LED reading
4
First-Year Engineering Program Rotate light over table Position solar meter under light to set height for sunny day or cloudy day binary values and then replace with solar cell. P. 4
5
First-Year Engineering Program Task 3 & 4 : Solar Cell – Concepts ( incident light at an angle ) P. 5 The energy output of a solar cell is related to the angle of incident light by the following relationship: b = (L) * cosФ.
6
First-Year Engineering Program Verify solar meter Before beginning, verify the solar meter circuit you will be using as follows: Disconnect the end of the lead connected to the output(V Out) of the light sensor board and plug it into the +5V row near the top of the board. Turn on the power and all LEDs should be on. If not, alert the instructional staff. When finished re-connect the lead to the light sensor board. P. 6
