2 CloudBand OpenStack Strategy

3 Experience matters - NFV PoC/Trial’s/Commercial Engagements
THE MARKET IS EVOLVING 2014 – 1H’15 2H’ … NFV 1.0 NFV 2.0 NFV Commercial No dedicated team No budget allocated in 2013 Mainly CTO/Research driven No executive priority Maybe part of the NFV working groups Multiple NFV projects Small NFV teams, limited budget "RFI like” activities Considering Automation & Orchestration Platform and/or use case driven approach Defining a roadmap for NFV migration On top executive agendas RFQ’s ongoing field trials move to small commercial deployments Early adopters already planning the next phase (2nd app, site extension etc) Experience matters - NFV PoC/Trial’s/Commercial Engagements 2013

4 OUR CUSTOMERS ARE EVOLVING

…AND EXPANDING THE MARKET WE ARE EVOLVING… TOTAL PROJECTS WORLDWIDE: 75 NFV APPLIANCE vEPC/vIMS vCPE NFV ORCHESTRATION NFV PLATFORM ENTERPRISE

6 THE MARKET HAS HIGH EXPECTATIONS FROM NFV
Interoperability is key for an NFV platform requiring open APIs and common functionality, and standards processes are lagging open source Scalability, flexibility, & extensibility High asset utilization Continuous deployments & upgrades Open competitive landscape Innovative ecosystem NFV integration services Most tier 1 Telco’s demand open solutions, and ask for open source and several push OPNFV Pooling resources with other companies increases velocity and quality of the code our customers expect open source to take a major part in achieving these benefits Scalability, flexibility, and extensibility: it’s no longer adding boxes or nodes in the network COTS switching hardware and servers to execute VNFs in an NFV environment Software that programs services instead of re-architecting the network and the management system for every new service High asset utilization: pool resources, including compute, storage, and network Optimization of asset utilization that translates into operational efficiencies Continuous deployments and upgrades: no dedicated appliances No limitation in the number of network functions and services that can be introduced and phased out using software Open competitive landscape: open source software and APIs Forcing a closer collaboration between service providers and various types of vendors Innovative ecosystem: open competitive landscape Fostering innovation that could enable service providers to catch up with very agile Internet companies

7 so as vendors we have several options
proprietary code tailor made for customer needs long development cycles customers challenge the value of proprietary code customers are concerned with lock-in MAKE BUY 3rd party s/w stacks feature & content compromises VENDORS BE A PART OF THE COMMUNITY open source usage contribution & project initiation community involvement

8 ensure our customers are provided with their required features WHEN THEY NEED THEM
our goal? ADDRESS OUR CUSTOMERS NFV NEEDS & PROVIDE ADDED VALUE IN ALIGNMENT WITH OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS guarantee ALIGNMENT with community direction through contributions as needed evolve open source projects to our desired directions through focused community involvement & influence

9 our open-source strategy: Lead. don’t be led
NFV has gaps these gaps will be filled and new projects will be opened by the community so, we can't wait we must be proactive and lead the community instead of being led by finding the most critical NFV projects that ensure our differentiation and securing our customers trust that we are pushing the critical issues Networking Analytics LCM Distribution Etc. Openstack Value moving to Openstack Cloudband New Value in Cloudband Contribute in areas where Openstack evolves Maintain proprietary code in “out of scope” unique areas Create value through advanced functionality in Cloudband

10 BUT OPEN SOURCE IS MORE THAN OPENSTACK
APPLICATION LAYER ALU DEVELOPED OPEN SOURCE OpenStack (RH) Apache HTTPD VNF Manager PLATFORM LAYER CB Placement optimization NFV Orchestration CB Management Portal CB Operations CB Service Catalog CB Policy management CB Resource Management CB Analytics engine Application LCM (Heat / Mistral / Murano) Ceph (RH) JClouds PostgreSQL Cassandra Nagios (OMD) Ganglia Rocks+ (StackIQ) Tomcat . . . KVM (RHEL) Linux (RHEL) CB Analytics rules OpenStack

11 open source is not new to us…
OpenStack is the main cloud environment of choice for NFV, and CloudBand is increasing involvement, contribution and targets leadership in some projects OpenStack, with thousands of developers evolves faster in many areas than proprietary solutions, and has become the de-facto standard for enterprise cloud management and NFV VIM 10,618 lines of code 15 blueprints 21 resolved bugs 151 lines of code 1 blueprint 6 resolved bugs Contribution to heat module Due to the attraction of OpenStack, new projects are initiated covering additional domains of OPNFV / ETSI NFV Increase in contribution Minor contribution Zero contribution

12 an OpenStack root cause analysis engine project initiated and led by CloudBand

13 an analytics engine for organizing, analyzing and expanding OpenStack alarms & events, generating insights on the Root Cause of problems and deducing the existence of problems before they are directly detected. VITRAGE WILL PROVIDE: MEANINGFUL, TIMELY AND HELPFUL EVENTS AND ALARMS VISUALIZATION OF THE CAUSE- EFFECT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EVENTS Vitrage at the openstack summit (Tokyo) OPENSTACK CEILOMETER APPROVED VITRAGE AS A SEPARATE OPENSTACK PROJECT (AND NOT AS PART OF CEILOMETER AS ORIGINALLY REQUESTED) RECEIVED TECHNICAL VALIDATION OF THE HIGH LEVEL ARCHITECTURE. what’s next for Vitrage: Vitrage roadmap and plan to be included in CloudBand 3.2 and OpenStack Mitaka release Intensive work on engagements with other companies to take an active part in Vitrage development Continued engagements with other open source projects so that Vitrage will be presented as a project that takes a role in their use cases Received recognition of the team’s ability to lead the project Received the blessing of the community (OpenStack and OPNFV) to go ahead with Vitrage Started building the community around Vitrage by initiating discussions with other companies

14 OPEN SOURCE IS A MIND-SET… AND WE HAVE TO ADAPT AND CHANGE
AGILE DEVELOPMENT TEAMS TO INCREASE RESPONSIVENESS AND IMPROVE TTM GO UPSTREAM! NEW ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES TO MONITOR AND TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH ALLOW FLEXIBILITY FOR CHANGING PRIORITIES IMPLEMENT TRUE WORK VISUALIZATION TRANSPARENCY – BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY FOCUS ON BRINGING UTMOST VALUE TO THE CUSTOMER – TOGETHER WITH THE COMMUNITY
