2  Exponents MUST BE THE SAME before you can add/subtract 2 numbers written in scientific notation.  Example 1: 7.35 x 10 2 m + 2.43 x 10 2 m = ? › Are exponents the same? › If yes, just add the 7.35 + 2.43, and make the answer x 10 ?.  Example 2: 2.70 x 10 7 + 15.6 x 10 6 + 0.165 x 10 8 = ? › Are exponents the same? › Make them the same, then add. (See p.32)
