6 th Grade Room Project In order to continue our understanding of scales and measurement each of you will be making a 2D model of your bedroom.
3
Step One Measure the length and width of your room in feet (round to the nearest half foot). DO NOT WORRY ABOUT HEIGHT (how tall something is). We are making a 2D model (bird’s eye perspective), not 3D model. (Fill out measurements in data packet)
4
Step Two Measure furniture in your room: bed, desk, end tables, dressers, area rug, etc. Measure DOORWAYS and windows, too! You need to measure at least 5 pieces of furniture so if you do not have that many, you may make a piece of furniture up. If that is that case, please make sure your measurement for the made-up piece of furniture is REALISTIC. You may measure a pet.
5
Step Three Write in measurements in the data packet. Making sure that you identify which piece of furniture has that measurement. Write the measurements in the first column. Round to the NEAREST ½ FOOT! Your room dimensions and your door do NOT count as a piece of furniture.

7
Step Four Depending on the size of your bedroom create a scale. Options are 1 inch = 1 foot or 1 inch = 2 feet. Then fill out your column 2 measurements using your scale.
8
Step Five Create your 2-D model on a separate piece of graph paper. Paste your graph paper on construction paper or poster board. Use a ruler. You can use colored paper, crayons and your imagination to enhance your model. Make sure your model includes 5 pieces of furniture, your name and your scale. Complete checklist.
9
Step Six Label each piece of furniture with your actual measurements
10
GRADE Read rubric to find out how you will be graded. The project will be scored out of 20 points and will count as a quiz grade for 4 th term. You will be handing in the project as well as the data sheet so make sure the data sheet is nice and neat (extras can be found online if needed).
