GOOD MORNING! A FREE WRITE Tuesday! Ideas: How did the game go yesterday? How did YOU play? If your dog could talk, what would he say? At birth everyone has the date they are supposed to die- your day was yesterday.

HELLO, LOVELIES! A FREE WRITE Wednesday, with some guidelines Choose a tone (joyous, humorous, dark, melancholy, ect…) Write your journal entry IN that tone. Pay attention to your diction (word choice). Include imagery that reflects that tone. Writing Ideas: The remains of the human race live in a glass dome with no entrance or exit, which protects them from the wasteland on the outside. One morning a dusty hand print appears on the outside.

We will understand the way diction and imagery function to convey character traits so that I can analyze short pieces of texts in order to illuminate the character’s layer using “Tunes for Bears to Dance To” and a diction imagery thinking map. Notes section Learning Target

WHAT IS DICTION? Diction is word choice. Authors choose words that have certain feelings associated with them, so that the author’s attitude about the subject becomes clear. There are either positive, negative, or neutral words. HOUSE (dwelling, home, shack, mansion)

DICTION IS WORD CHOICE. The author’s attitude about the subject becomes clear through diction. There are either positive, negative, or neutral words. What is the author’s attitude? Their house wasn’t a home. The ragged, broken windows rarely opened. Dust and old yellowed papers piled to the sky. As I walked into their house the smell of sugar cookies filled the air and mixed with the yellow sunshine pouring into the house. The curtains danced as the cool breeze flew in.
