1 Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System
IRNSS Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System Aleksander Jurica

2 Introduction Regional Navigation system
Developed by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Independence from US GPS GPS is not guaranteed in hostile situations The program was approved in May 2006

3 Introduction IRNSS will cover Indian subcontinent, South-east Asia, Iran, Indian Ocean, China, some parts of Australia, and Arab subcontinent. IRNSS is expected to be realized by according to ISRO. The first of seven satellites (IRNSS-1) is scheduled to be launched in June 2013

4 Introduction IRNSS will provide an absolute position accuracy of better than 10 meters throughout India and within a region. The IRNSS system mainly consists of: Ground Segment, Space Segment and User Segment.

5 Standard Positioning Service Restricted Services for
Service type Signals Frequency Band Standard Positioning Service 1.023 Mcps L5( Mhz) S( Mhz) Precise Positioning 10.23 Mcps L5 Service S Restricted Services for Special Users

6  IRNSS Space Segment Seven satellites - three in GEO orbit (at 34º E, 83º E and 131.5º E , km altitude) four in GSO (Geosynchronous orbit) ( 35,786 km) orbit inclined at 29 degrees to the equatorial plane with their longitude crossings at 55º E and 111.5º E (two in each plane)

8 IRNSS Space Segment All the satellites will be continuously visible in the Indian region for 24 hours a day. The life span of the GEOs is 9.5 years and 11 years in the case of the GSOs. The Indian GSLV-Mk III launcher will be used for launching.

9 The proposed satellite specifications are:
Dry mass of the satellite ~ 600 kg Power generation 1400 watts Fuel loading capacity ~ 785 kg Accommodates navigation payload of weight 102 kg and 375 watts of power

10 IRNSS Ground Segment  Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the IRNSS constellation.

11 IRNSS Ground Segment IRNSS Space Craft Control Centre (SCC)
IRNSS Navigation Centre (INC) IRNSS TTC & Up linking Stations (IRTTC) IRNSS Range and Integrity Monitoring Stations (IRIMS) IRNSS Timing Centre (IRNWT) IRNSS CDMA Ranging Stations (IRCDR) Laser Ranging Station (ILRS) Data Communication Network (IRDCN)

12 IRNSS User segment Made of the IRNSS receivers.
Dual-frequency receivers or single frequency with capability to receive ionospheric correction. The user receiver will have a minimum gain G/T of -27 dB/K. They will be able to receive and process navigation data from other GNSS constellations
