Romania is a country located at the crossroads of Central and Southeastern Europe, on the Lower Danube, within and outside the Carpathian arch, bordering on the Black Sea.

Romania shares a border with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and Moldova to the north- east and east, and Bulgaria to the south.

Its capital and largest city is Bucharest, the sixth largest city in the EU with about two million people.

With a surface area of 238,391 square kilometres, Romania is the largest country in southeastern Europe and the twelfth-largest in Europe.

A high percentage(47% of the land area)of the country is covered with natural and semi-natural ecosystems.Since almost half of all forests in Romania (13% of the country) have been managed for watershed conservation rather than production, Romania has one of the largest areas of undisturbed forest in Europe.

There are almost 10,000 km 2 (3,900 sq mi) (about 5% of the total area) of protected areas in Romania covering 13 national parks and three biosphere reserves: the Danube Delta, Retezat National Park, and Rodna National Park.

Tourism focuses on the country's natural landscapes and its rich history and is a significant contributor to the Romanian economy. In 2006, domestic and international tourism generated about 4.8% of gross domestic product and 5.8% of the total jobs.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, Romania is the fourth fastest growing country in the world in terms of travel and tourism total demand, with a yearly potential growth of 8% from 2007 to 2016.

One of the largest cities of Romania is Ploiesti,which is the city where I study.

Ploiesti is the county seat of Prahova County and lies in the historical region of Wallachia in Romania. The city is located 56 km north of Bucharest,Romania`s capital.

Due to oil exploitation in the area of the city, very early it became an industrial town, here was built the first refinery in the world.

Because Ploiesti was the largest oil producer in Europe, it was called "Black Gold Capital". Although at present the amount of oil extracted in the area decreases continuously process large amounts of the four refineries, refined products being transported by pipelines to Bucharest, Constanta and Giurgiu.

My town

Băicoi is a town in Prahova County, Wallachia, Romania. The first historical artifacts discovered in the city were found in Tintea and date from about 341 AD. It is about Dacian coins.

The active population represents about 42% of the total and more than 60% is employed in industry and services.
