Legal and Documentalistic Subelements Remarks on Biagioli`s Concept of Legal Provisions V Legislative XML Workshop Towards European standards for legislative documents and knowledge Italy, Florence, 14 – 16 June 2006 by Harald Hoffmann - Friedrich Lachmayer METADAT A-1110 Vienna, Simmeringer Hauptstraße 24

Carlo Biagioli structures legal texts by creating subelements (“provisions”). This methodical approach is effective as it provides for specific results (e.g. deontic consequences). Our contribution tries to differentiate between legal and documentalistic subelements. Target is to achieve a synthesis between them, resulting in a new concept of legal acts and their subelements, a new role of legal ontologies, enabling automatic generation of consequences, and in a more comfortable user interface.
