Musicals The 50’s was full of colorful, escapist, lavish classical musicals Musical helped transition Hollywood from the silent era to the talkie era Musicals were purely made for entertaining people and help people put aside the issues for a while Singing in the Rain became one of the most famous musicals ever made

Low- budget Western became popular in the 50’s due to ambiguous character rather than blazing action Some popular westerns were, 3:10 To Yuma, and The Searchers Many directors were targeted by the HUAC for supposedly being “Communist sympathizers” Fans enjoyed Westerns because they liked the good guy taking a showdown stand for justice

Two of the most famous “rebels” were James Dean and Marlon Brando Movie Rebels were known for their erotic emotional and dirty roles they played in movies Many of these movies were blacklisted due to McCarthyism, but the didn’t stop directors Some of the most famous movies starring Rebels are Rebel Without a Cause, A Streetcar Named Desire, and On the Waterfront
