MOTORWAVE ® Electricity and Desalinated Water from Wave Energy
2
Motorwave has created a unique, inexpensive process to capture the potential energy from ocean waves. Waves have significantly more potential energy than wind or solar, and the ability to harness this energy means electricity intensive byproducts can be easily created, such as desalinized water and hydrogen. Although electricity is one beneficial byproduct, we can also directly use the mechanical energy created (instead of converting into electricity with a loss of 50% efficiency which is common in all conversion processes), to make desalinized water. Wave Energy
3
Motorwave proposes to install one initial wave machine as an example of how both electricity and desalinized water can be created. One machine is approximately 300m in length, and can generate 1MW with an average wave height of 2m. The same machine can be used for electricity production during peak hours, and for the desalinization of water during off-peak hours. Clean Opportunity
4
Motorwave will need a project champion in each local jurisdiction, as well as funding of US$300,000 to get the first machine installed and operating. Once production of machines has started, it is expected that the payback time of each machine (based on electricity sales), will be less than 4 months. Once the first machine is shown to work in the local conditions, a larger “wave farm” can then be constructed. Motorwave will need an approved location off the coast (with the option to use more ocean surface area in the same location for a larger wave farm). What is Needed
5
Motorwave will convert mechanical energy to electricity at the machine, and transfer the electricity via a cable to shore. If desalinized water is produced, this will also occur at the machine, and the resulting fresh water will be piped to shore. The project will need local support for approvals, as well as the ability to sell electricity onto the grid, or to sell water to the local utility (or other buyers). What is Needed
6
1 Motorwave machine of 300m in length is expected to make 1MW of power, or (1000 liters /hour) of desalinized water. Electricity will be sold at 50% of the existing wholesale price of electricity. Desalinized water will also be sold for at least 25% less than the current price of fresh water. Results
7
Power of the Waves Each wave has 2 energy levels a) potential energy P= Mg H b) kinetic energy P=1/2 MV2 Energy levels can be from 20 to 100 kW / meter There are approximately 2 gigawatts of energy per every square km of sea
8
Characteristics of the MotorWave Each Motorwave is composed of about 70 modules, with a length of about 300m. Each float is about 2 cubic meters Each Motorwave can pump to 50m in height at 2 cubic meters per second. Motorwaves can be linked to be several kilometers long

Side Benefits of a Motorwave Farm One of the side benefits of a wave farm is that it acts as a fish sanctuary. Fish are attracted to floating objects, and such a farm allows cover for smaller fish, allowing them to grow and reproduce. The majority of the world’s oceans are severely overfished, and the introduction of a wave farm can be highly beneficial to a local fishing community. It is also expected that the Motorwave project will hire local fisherman to work on the maintenance of the wave farm, as they are the most skilled at working in an ocean environment.

Motorwave Solutions This project offers an opportunity to harness the vast wave resources that bless each island community. Wave machines can be made from reinvestment of the initial capital, allowing for increased electricity and water production in a highly scalable and affordable manner. The Motorwave project will bring a high level of PR to the local community, new employment opportunities, and best of all, a clean, economical way to keep the island’s operations sustainable.
